The Similar Email Address check, found in our suite of Program Integrity rules, is one of the most important methods to preventing fraudulent usage of the referral program. At its' core, it prevents fraudulent referrers from earning or receiving referral offers by trying to game the system. In this help article, we'll be describing a little more in depth about how it works.
How it Works
When an Advocate goes to refer a friend, an email address will need to be entered in order to initiate a referral. Once the Referred Friend receives the referral offer, in most cases, they will also need to enter in their email address in order to receive their Friend Incentive. With both of these email addresses collected by our system, our platform will compare between the two email addresses and look for similarities. If the email addresses reach a certain threshold of similarity, the Advocate Reward and/or the Friend Incentive can be automatically rejected to prevent fraudulent use of the referral program.
